Storm front that hit South West Sydney.

A FEROCIOUS storm has wreaked havoc across western Sydney this evening, with the roof of one apartment landing on the train line at Mt Druitt.

The twisted piece of metal came to rest on overhanging powerlines, causing them to spark and left hundred of commuters stranded as the T1 Western and Blue Mountains Line between Penrith and Blacktown was closed.

The storm hit about 6.30pm, with wind gusts of more than 80km/h recorded at Badgerys Creek and large areas of the city pounded by heavy rains.

It had largely passed the metropolitan area by by 8.30pm.

An incredible 29mm of rain fell in just 30min at the Avon Fire Station, near Bargo, causing flash-flooding.

Jason Simms from the SES said they had received 115 calls for help by 8pm, mainly for flooding, uprooted trees and flying debris.

Fairfield, Blacktown, Mt Druitt and Parramatta were the worst affected areas, with other calls also coming in from south western sydney areas through to Wollandilly.

"They've mainly been for heavy rain, flash flooding and trees down," he said.

Some suburbs were left without power for part of the night.

Ausgrid have been working to restore power back to 4,200 homes in Villawood, Chester Hill and Bass Hill, while there were reports of outages in Kellyville, Campbelltown and several other suburbs.
