THE rodeo is over for My Kitchen Rules cowboy Robert Murphy and his daughter Lynzey, after a dessert disaster sent them packing from Kitchen HQ.

Serving up the last of his life lessons, Texan-style, Murphy was ever the gentleman, standing by his offspring "no matter what" after she flubbed their final dish of beetroot and blood orange parfait with raspberry sorbet.

The exotic attempt failed to set in time, giving the tight contest to Queensland dads Rob McKeen and Dave Evans, who survived elimination by five points, with a score of 46 out of 60.

Their entree of chargrilled seafood in tomato and basil consomme got their surprisingly sophisticated menu off to a good start with the judges, praised by guest Guy Grossi for having "real depth of flavour in there."

It overshadowed the Texan team's starter of fried goats cheese with strawberries and balsamic sauce which turned sour when it was served scorched.

Murphy tried to spin extra interest in dish's backstory, telling the audience: "I've been around goats my whole life (and) lost my two front baby teeth when a big old Spanish goat stepped in my mouth after he bucked me off."

The mains event evened up the competition, with the cowboy's wagyu eye fillet with caramelised onions and potato puree scoring major brownie points with the judges' table.

He played to Pete Evans' paleo requirements, who described the perfectly cooked steak as "a yummy dish."

Murphy admitted cooking meat was "kind of a Texan's heritage ... if I were to stuff up this steak it would be my worst nightmare."

Keeping up their side of the scoreboard, the Brisbane boys scored solidly for their main of stuffed chicken breast with brussels sprouts and parsnip puree.

But it was drama central for both teams when dessert was served, with Lynzey in tears over her unset parfait; while on the other side of the kitchen, Dave overcooked some of the figs in honey and ginger (served later with shortbread and pistachio syrup).

While Manu and Pete panned the dads dish, guest judge Liz Egan said the dessert was balanced in its use of sugar and salt.

Hanging up his hat and apron, Murphy farewelled the competition, telling the judges: "we tried our best and it's really a shame because I had a lot of good stories left."

Lynzey added: 'it was so much fun, it's the most time I've ever spent with my dad. I wouldn't have done it with anyone else."

My Kitchen Rules airs 7.30pm Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday on Channel 7.
