Home time? ... Joel Creasey and Chrissie Swan had such a rough day that the pair seriously considered quitting I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! Picture: Supplied Source: Supplied

ALMOST half of the stars in the I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! camp are on the verge of total meltdowns and seriously considering walking out on the show, after a dramatic night of tears.

It has been just five days since the 10 personalities were dropped in the depths of the South African jungle to battle basic living conditions and a host of weird and disgusting challenges for the next several weeks.

But the pressure is becoming too much for reality TV star Chrissie Swan, comedian Joel Creasey, model Laura Dundovic and American actress Maureen McCormick. Producers of the show are abuzz that one is about to quit.

As dusk fell, Swan and Creasey paid a visit to the Tok Tokkie in what looked like could be the first shock departures.

"We want to go," an exhausted Swan said. "We've had enough."

The normally light and humorous personas of Swan and Creasey have darkened in recent days, with the pair discussing whether they should remain on the Network Ten reality series.

"I just don't feel like myself," Creasey said. "I feel like I've lost all my funny. I just need something to perk me up. I'm a tough cookie and this never happens to me so it's really quite shocking."

Swan admitted she was battling pangs of depression but after a long conversation, she and Creasey agreed to sleep on the decision.

"We can't go... can we?" she asked. Watch that space.

They're not the only ones questioning how long they can last.

Dundovic is still struggling to cope with her emotions after flaking on Wednesday night's Tucker Trial, leaving The Brady Bunch star McCormick to dive into two pits alone — one filled with rotting offal and fish guts, and the other stinking elephant poo.

Just hours before Thursday's show went to air, the blonde beauty appeared to be packing items into her bag. After the show, she was sullen when viewers voted for her to take part in another trial.

On Wednesday, the former Miss Universe Australia winner openly declared to her campmates that she wanted to go home and was finding the confronting experience all too hard.

"I'm having serious thoughts about going home. Why don't I just say it?"

Despite her courageous triumph, the colourful McCormick has also continued to ride a roller-coaster of emotion. Just before Thursday's show, she bust out in tears not long after waking, speaking of her longing for the comforts of home.

"It's just so hard," she told cricket legend Merv Hughes.

Olympian Leisel Jones also shed a number of tears around the campfire on Wednesday and on Tuesday former Hi-5 entertainer Lauren Brant broke down over missing her fiance Warren Riley.

All the celeb campers have to do to return to their regular lives is yell "I'm a celebrity — get me out of here!" and it seems that possibility is increasingly likely.

With so many stars struggling to cope, the sense on the set of the large-scale production is that it might be just a matter of time until there's a self-elimination.

Should one of the stars indicate their intention to leave, it's understood they have the option of speaking privately to a psychologist to discuss their options.

In the 14 seasons of the UK series, only half a dozen celebs have walked out of camp of their own accord.

I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! airs Monday to Thursday at 7.30pm and Sunday at 6.30pm on Network Ten.
