GLENN Maxwell unloaded a World Cup warning and headlined a ton of worry for India as Australia cruised to a 106-run warm-up win in Adelaide.

Opener David Warner's (104 off 83 balls) endless summer of centuries also continued against India in collusion with brilliant Maxwell (122 off 57).

Australia set India 372 to win but MS Dhoni's side was never in the chase, eventually folding for 265 in 45.1 overs.

A 104-run third-wicket stand between Ajinkya Rahane (59) and Shikhar Dhawan (66) proved the major resistance against the collective force of Mitch Johnson (2-26), Pat Cummins (3-30), Josh Hazlewood (2-25) and Mitch Starc (2-16).

Glenn Maxwell has backed up David Warner's efforts, smashing a ton off just 53 balls, in Australia's World Cup warm-up match against India in Adelaide.

A half-century from Ambati Rayudi (53) extended the contest in a 69-run union with Ravi Jadeja (20) after India slumped to 7-185 in the 33rd over.

Starc prevented a six with an extraordinary, nonchalant boundary take to dismiss Dhoni first ball off slick Cummins and flatten India. Starc also ensured Virat Kohli (18) failed to repeat his first Test heroics here.

Shane Watson (0-21) returned to bowling duty after three weeks out with a hamstring strain.

Left-arm spinner Xavier Doherty (0-51) was expensive in a push for a spot in Australia's XI for the tournament opener against England on Saturday at the MCG. Maxwell (0-29) looms as Australia's primary spin option this campaign.

Maxwell retired on 122 having thrilled the crowd with a Big Show only the gun all-rounder can provide. The Victorian unleashed 11 fours and eight sixes and a raft of reverse sweeps as Australia roared to 371.

However Australian medicos - already with star duo Michael Clarke and James Faulkner sidelined – will have to monitor Maxwell who required treatment for apparent back soreness while batting on 50.

Mitchell Starc has pulled off a superb catch to send MS Dhoni walking in Australia's World Cup warm-up match against India in Adelaide.

Warner and Maxwell dominated an impotent Indian attack with exhilarating strokeplay. An India side now deprived of injured paceman Ishant Sharma lacked any menace except Umesh Yadav (2-52) who skittled Steve Smith (1) and all-rounder Mitchell Marsh (21).

Maxwell entered the clash saying his match-winning tri-series display against England in Perth was a "glimpse of things to come" and was true to his word. Maxwell maintains his unique approach has 'nothing to do with ego' but now realises 'patience' is a virtue.

Maxwell duly began in measured fashion with 34 off 28, balls before taking 88 off his last 29.

David Warner has sent a warning to Australia's World Cup opponents, blasting a century in a warm-up match against India in Adelaide.

Warner's third ton in as many innings at Adelaide Oval underlined his affinity for the venue and rare ability. Warner looked to the fans, dressing room and then the heavens as he did in an emotional first Test here in recognition of Phillip Hughes after blasting his ton.

There were mixed reviews for the support cast.

Fill in skipper George Bailey (44 off 66 balls) found some groove in a stop-start dig. Bailey laboured for 10 runs off his next 27 balls after reaching 28. Bailey exited cutting Mohammed Shami (3-83) to Ravi Jadeja at backward point.

No.3 Watson (22 off 17 balls) started before mistiming a pull shot off Mohit Sharma (2-62).

It was a critical innings for Bailey who struggled for 17 runs in four games during the tri-series against India and England. Bailey is "excited as a school kid" about leading Australia in the World Cup opener against England.

However Clarke is on schedule to return from hamstring surgery in the second game – possibly at Bailey's expense - against India on February 21 in Brisbane against Bangladesh.
