A MELBOURNE man, who is the CEO of an Australian Bitcoin exchange company, has been killed in Thailand in a motorcycle crash.

The Phuket Gazette reports Adam Tepper's body was found in Sai Yuan Junction on Wiset Road below a destroyed traffic sign.

The motorbike Mr Tepper was riding was about 30 metres away.

Mr Tepper was killed after slamming his motorbike into the back of a parked trailer in the centre of the city.

His mother, Dianna Tepper, told 7 News her son was not wearing a helmet when the fatal accident happened.

"Please don't ever get on a motorbike without a helmet," she said.

"It if saves one life, I'm happy."

DFAT is providing consular assistance to his family.

Thai police confirmed he died on impact as the crashed occurred. He was in Thailand on holidays, according to media reports.

"Mr Tepper was not wearing a helmet and struck his head on the sign — he died instantly," said Capt Thada Sodarak of the Chalong Police.

"I believe he was moving very fast at the time of the crash, as part of the sign pole was buried a metre underground, and it was pulled out by the impact."

Tepper, 34, was from Langwarrin in Melbourne's southeast and was the CEO of a Bitcoin market company called Independent Reserve. It was founded in 2013 in Sydney.

The company's mission was to "transform digital currency technology into secure, robust and regulated financial services, and do things the right way".

Mr Tepper was a member of The Ao Chalong Yacht Club in Phuket, which posted a tribute message on their website and on their Facebook page today.

It stated: "Long-standing and active ACYC member, Adam Tepper, was tragically killed in a motorcycle accident in the early hours of Friday 27 February. We will miss him both at the yacht club bar and out on the water. For those who want to raise a glass or two to Adam, there will be a wake at the club at 6pm Sunday 1 March."

Before Independent Reserve, his company's official website states that Mr Tepper founded a Sydney-based IT consultancy, specialising in the development of enterprise software for corporate clients.

"Through this venture, Adam established an offshore development centre in Asia, at the same time growing his corporate client base back in Sydney as well as attracting international clients," the site state.

"This led to a long-term partnership with Nine Entertainment in Sydney, becoming an integral part of their IT department. Through this partnership, Adam's firm provided the knowledge and resources to design, build and support critical business systems as well as evangelising content delivery via internet and mobile devices and established a dedicated mobile technology team for Nine Entertainment."

Mr Tepper is described as "a keen motorsport enthusiast" on his own company website, and was an annual participant in the Finke Desert Race.

"Adam thoroughly enjoys the great outdoors including off-roading, camping, trail riding and sailing. He has a Bachelor of Science from Swinburne University in Melbourne," it also states.
