A couple has filmed a large freight train smashing into stricken truck in Mer Rouge, Louisiana.

THIS is the terrifying moment a freight train slammed into a truck stranded on the tracks at a level crossing.
It was captured on video by a couple travelling by car through northeast Louisiana.

The shocked pair began filming the scene through their windscreen after they realised that the trailer was stuck as a train approached.

As the train smashes into the trailer, horn blaring, the woman gasps in horror, saying: "Tell me he got out".
There were no fatalities but an engineer and conductor on board the train were seriously injured, according to local police. Their injuries were not life-threatening, however.
Two engines and 17 of the 87 train cars were derailed in the Mer Rouge collision.
Trucker Daniel Shackleford, of Freedom, Missouri, was able to jump out of his 18-wheel vehicle in the nick of time.

Mer Rouge Police Chief Mitch Stephens said around 50 houses in the area were evacuated after the crash on Sunday because of fears that a train car filled with pressurised argon gas might explode.
Another car was leaking liquid argon, which can be deadly when inhaled for an extended period of time.
Chief Stephens said crashes were not unusual in the town, but this was the worst he had seen.
Crystal Carter, a sales clerk at a nearby gas station, told 8 News she heard a loud bang and saw everyone start running. "I was so scared I was frozen I didn't know what to do," she said.
She said she had seen accidents there before, and believed something needed to be done to make the crossing safer.
