9.10pm - DALY CHERRY-EVANS SLICES THROUGH

IT'S not all doom and gloom for Queensland as the man tipped to guide the Maroons for the next decade showed us what he's all about.

Queensland led 6-2 at halftime after Daly Cherry-Evans sliced through the heart of the NSW defence before putting it on the boot for his skipper Cam Smith to score just before the break.

With NSW having already won the series going into game three, we expected fireworks at Suncorp Stadium.

But the players have been well behaved for the most part in a fast but tight opening half.

8.30pm - QUEENSLAND DENIED OPENING TRY

IT LOOKED for all money as though Aidan Guerra had opened the scoring for Queensland in the first half, when he pounced on a loose ball in the in-goal.

The decision was sent upstairs with the referee suggesting it was a try.

The video referee, however, overruled, ruling Johnathan Thurston was in front of the kicker.

7.30pm - EXPECT PUNCHES TO BE THROWN

NSW anticipates a fight night against Queensland in State of Origin III, with prop James Tamou revealing the Blues have discussed the prospect of punches being thrown.

"I can see it, big time," Tamou told AAP.

"We've spoken about it.

"Game three might explode and we just spoke about how our frustrations were getting really close to the point where we really wanted to push back with a punch (in game two)."

Aside from a sneaky jab by Queenslander Nate Myles in game two, no punches were thrown despite the entire 80 minutes being marred by niggling tactics.

Players and coaches were frustrated that the referees couldn't stamp out the nasty behaviour, and the NRL's strict anti-punching regulations meant that pent-up aggression had no way of releasing itself.

But with NSW already series champions, players appear ready to break ranks at Suncorp Stadium should tensions boil over.

7.15pm - DID WE REALLY NEED STATE OF ORIGIN III?

THIS might just be the least-hyped State of Origin game in history.

NSW takes an unassailable 2-0 lead, making game three a dead rubber.

So we asked the question: Did we really need to play Origin III? Check out the debate.

6.45pm - DUGAN AND HIS BROKEN FINGERNAIL

JOSH Morris, busted knee. Brett Morris, dislocated shoulder. Cooper Cronk, fractured arm.

Josh Dugan, broken fingernail.

Dugan might seem like the odd man out in the "playing through pain stakes" but take one look at the pinkie on his right hand and try not to wince in empathetic agony.

The NSW centre will play State of Origin III with a fingernail missing, after it was completely torn off during his last match for St George Illawarra.

As the picture on Brad Fittler's twitter feed would attest, it's not pretty.

And given Dugan couldn't even shake hands at the beginning of Origin camp, tackling Queensland powerhouse Greg Inglis is going to be far from comfortable.

"Any time it knocks something or I move it, it feels like barbed wire is on it," Dugan told AAP.

"It doesn't feel too pleasant. It's one of the worst feelings I've had through my career."
