You wouldn’t dare do this to your boss

Argentina finished atop the Group F standings largely thanks to Lionel Messi's double in the 3-2 win over Nigeria.

EZEQUIEL Lavezzi clearly has no respect for his boss.

The Argentinian footballer, one of his nation's gazillion star forwards at the World Cup, indulged in a rather rebellious moment during the game against Nigeria this morning.

Lavezzi was on the sideline, preparing to enter the fray as a substitute. His manager, Alejandro Sabella, was issuing some fevered last-minute instructions.

Lavezzi didn't care very much for said instructions. In fact, he was listening with all the enthusiasm of a delinquent teenager stuck in maths class.

Finally losing his patience altogether, the player petulantly sprayed his water bottle on Sabella's lovely, crisp suit.

A strong, authoritative, egotistical manager such as Jose Mourinho or Alex Ferguson would probably have put Lavezzi in his place right there on the sideline.

Sabella seems to lack those qualities. His time in Brazil has been plagued by rumours that Argentina's players, particularly Lionel Messi, really call the shots in their dressing room. So, allowing the sneaky squirt to land on him without comment, Sabella just kept issuing his instructions.

When Lavezzi was questioned about the incident after the game, he told TyC Sports he sprayed his manager to calm the man down.

"I threw water on Sabella because I saw that he was too nervous," he said. "I don't think that I will ask him about it, because he is already used to it!"

Wait, he's used to it? This sort of thing happens all the time? It doesn't sound as though Argentina has a particularly healthy team environment.

Nevertheless, Argentina did finish on top of its World Cup group this morning, and it will play Switzerland in the round of 16 on Wednesday morning (AEST).
