Shocking sledge against Socceroos

The Bank of Chile have released a stirring commercial ahead of the World Cup, with the 33 Chilean miners rescued in 2010 telling their team that nothing is impossible.

IT'S the most beautiful, inspirational World Cup video you've ever seen, but it's also a spectacularly brutal sledge against the Socceroos.

A Chilean bank has made a World Cup ad featuring survivors of the 2010 Copiapo mine accident, in which 33 Chilean miners were trapped underground for 69 days. The ad features footage of the mine rescue, spliced with snippets of the Chilean national football team.

Towards the end of the ad the survivors, known as "Los 33", fill jars with dry soil from the mine site, which they will take to Brazil and scatter on their training pitch for inspiration. Classical music plays, the leader of the miners bellows and it's all very emotive and uplifting.

Then the snub to Australia comes.

"Spain is hard, Holland is hard but we are not scared of the death group because we have already beaten death before," the leader of the miners declares boldly.

So if Spain is hard, and Holland is hard, the question must be asked: what about the other country in Chile's group of four — Australia?

Are we not hard? Are we, indeed, soft? Australia meets Chile in the first World Cup match for both nations on June 13 in Cuiaba, Brazil. Has Chile already banked the points for that game?

This is not the first time Australia has suffered a sledge like this at the hands of South Americans.

In 2006, before the FIFA World Cup in Germany, Japan's Brazilian coach Zico said this: "We are in a very tough group. Croatia and Brazil are very good."

Just like those Chileans, Zico made no mention of Australia. And how very wrong he proved to be. Australia beat his Japanese team 3-1 in 2006 and advanced out of its group.

Here's hoping the same thing happens this time. This was going to be one of those simple stories where we share an inspirational video. But after having it translated by our excellent Paraguayan data analyst Blas Prieto, we're going the other way.

This video is arrogant. Socceroos, we urge you to rub the Chileans' noses in the dirt, so to speak.

Here's the full text:

Location: Atacama desert

In this place we were trapped for 70 days. The earth has swollen us.

It was there where we had to prove what we were made of.

We knew that outside millions of Chileans believed in us.

And this sand/dirt was the witness of everything,

This is why we are taking this dirt to Brazil and place it in the field where our team is going to train,

To fill them with hope and courage so we can show the world that for a Chilean person nothing is impossible.

Spain is hard, Holland is hard but we are not scared of the death group because we have already beaten death before.
