AUSTRALIAN singer Megan Washington has stepped up her attack on broadcaster Kyle Sandilands by labelling him out of date and embarrassing.

Washington's dislike of Sandilands spiked after his interview with pop dominator Lorde, in which the controversial broadcaster asked about her friendship with US warbler Taylor Swift.

"Are you guys like, uh, are you together now?" Sandilands pressed Lorde, adding, "not together, as in, lesbians".

Irritated, Lorde asked: "Is there something wrong with lesbians?"

Washington tweeted her support: "Sandilands: You are embarrassing," she told her 70,000 Twitter followers.

"Please retire. You have enough money. Please go away."

In an interview with Confidential, Washington stood by her comments about Sandilands.

"I honestly think if you believe in something, you have to stand up against it," Washington said.

"He is a gross misrepresentation of the ideas and the philosophies that are present in the Zeitgeist. He is so old fashioned, embarrassing and he needs to go home."

Washington is set to release a new album, a long-awaited follow up to her critically acclaimed 2011 debut, I Believe You Liar.
