ANZ stadium revises security after streaker

A streaker causes chaos during a crucial moment in Origin III.

ANZ stadium has met with NSW police and their security team in the wake of the embarrassing streaking incident during the State of Origin decider.

A spokesman for the stadium said security strategies were being revised after a lubed-up and nude 33-year-old Wati Holmwood managed to dash onto the pitch in the dying moments of play.

"The Stadium has undertaken to do whatever it can to minimise the risk of incidents like we witnessed on Wednesday night and we are working closely with police, our security team and event partners on risk assessment and security strategies going forward," said ANZ Stadium spokesman Arthur Stanley.

"Police have dealt with the intruder in terms of charges and the NRL has subsequently banned him from all future rugby league matches.

Mr Stanley also added that Mr Holmwood "will also be issued with a banning notice preventing him from attending future events at ANZ Stadium".

"He won't be getting back in here again," he said.

He's also sore and scared.

Still wearing the sports shoes that were beamed live to a global audience in the hundreds of millions, Mr Holmwood appeared dazed and confused as he spoke to The Daily Telegraph after discharging himself – against medical advice – from Auburn hospital early this morning.

Naked numbskull steals spotlight

Thankfully he had since found a singlet and shorts to cover his now infamous body and held his hands to his head as he uttered a very simple five-letter word.

"I'm sorry, I apologise about what happened, am I in trouble now?"

Well, yes. Mr Holmwood was earlier taken to Flemington local area command where he was slapped with a field court attendance notice for wilful and obscene exposure and entering or remaining on the field of play without authorisation.

Blues filthy over streak

His mad dash has likely cost him lifelong exclusion from ANZ Stadium.

"It all happened so quickly, I don't know what was going through my head," he said.

"I just wanted to make it interesting but I stuffed up Origin. A lot of people hate me now."

Mr Holmwood wandered out of the emergency room at Auburn hospital around 1.20am, after being sedated. Nursing staff told The Daily Telegraph they had pled with him to stay but he demanded to sign the paperwork and leave.

At one point security staff escorted him back inside, but they were powerless to keep him in hospital.

"Don't touch me," he said to the security guards as they attempted to convince him to stay the night.

When Mr Holmwood finally left he was penniless and was forced to bum $10 from this reporter for a cab fare to the local train station.

"I've got a headache, I just need some fresh air," he said.

"I want to go home and have a shower, I don't know where I am."

Asked if he could remember his dramatic pitch intrusion, Mr Holmwood said: "Queensland scored a try when I was on didn't they? I want to see myself on television."

The dying seconds of Queensland's eighth straight Origin victory will forever be remembered as the moment a rotund, slow Tempe local managed to evade ANZ Stadium security for what seemed like minutes and to effectively become a 27th player in the most respected rugby league spectacle on the planet.

Origin streaker exposed

His forced insertion into the game ultimately cost New South Wales the chance to snatch victory, after match officials were forced to restart play in the form of a scrum – and a further set of six tackles – to the Maroons.

What's more staggering, is that it isn't the first time Mr Holmwood has managed the feat. In 2011 he was banned from drinking in public and from entering the Sydney Football Stadium after he jumped the fence during an NRL match between the Wests Tigers and the New Zealand Warriors.
